Recommended Recordings – Recommended Compilations
As one of Our Recommendations and Recommended Recordings, we recommend Sonny Boy Williamson – Cool Cool Blues, a 4 CD box set on JSP Records.
Although this set is being marketed as a Sonny Boy Williamson box set, it’s actually a compilation of Trumpet Records releases from 1951-1954.
Trumpet Records of Jackson, Mississippi was a very influential label in blues history, Although Trumpet Records was only active between 1951-54, its accomplishments include releasing the first recordings made by Sonny Boy Williamson II and Elmore James.
Although this is marketed as a Sonny Boy Williamson II set and it contains a lot of Sonny Boy Williamson recordings, it’s actually a compilation of Trumpet Records releases between 1951-1954.
The re-mastered sound is very good, the liner notes have interesting information and the selection of tracks is a comprehensive representation of Trumpet Records releases between 1951-54.
